It's time for dahlias! NEWS: The "collection from the gate" option is coming back to the webshop

Very excited to say its that time of year again! Our dahlia patch is producing good numbers of dahlias. Which is very exciting as we doubled our plot this year with nearly 500 plants! The tubers were planted in mid April and we started to get our first blooms of “ Totally Tangerine” (pictured below) a couple weeks ago, and now there are a lot more varieties coming into flower. We also have lots lovely filler flowers to add to bouquets for the rest of our growing season. Which, all going well, will be until the end of October! 🤞

This year has been a very difficult growing year, with drought conditions in May, (Yes, drought in Ireland!) When the water well nearly dried up trying to water all our newly planted seedlings, not mention all the new shrubs we invested in for the future flower farm. It was stressful to say the least! We even had weddings to keep together on top of it all!

To a record breakingly wet July… the consequences we are now dealing with mould and mildew and some crops failing.

August has proved to be just as difficult with high winds hitting our new field as well as our dahlia and sunflower patches. We have been able to recover from the storm and have put in proper wind barriers to accomodate.

Its fair to say, this growing season has really made us plan differently about how the flower farm will produce blooms in coming years.

Some plans being: We hope to install a rain harvesting system and better irrigation pipes, as well as covering more crops from the rain, which is another fairly large investment!

All that said, we do have lots of beautiful flowers for bouquets, vase arrangements and simple bunches for our all our customers: wholesale, retail and weddings! It sounds like quite the miracle, doesn’t it?!

Collection from the Gate

As mentioned in the title of this post, now that we have a bounty if dahlias and autumn blooms we will be bringing back the “Collection from the Gate” option to the webshop! So stay tuned to when we install our new collection box next week.

This Collection option will be a free for customers to come and collect their order from the gate every Wednesday or Friday.

We are currently awaiting delivery of our new collection box so as soon as its up and in place we will be ready on the website.
