The Cut Flower Garden
Our small sustainable flower garden is run by, Taylor Nelsen and Kevin O’Connell, we are situated among the rolling hills and hedgerows of North Glanmire. On our small plot we aim to grow a variety of seasonal blooms and foliages. We use homemade nettle and seaweed tea for fertilizer, make our own compost from plant trimmings and use no chemical sprays or pesticides. We also aim to grow using the No-Till (No-Dig) method, preserving soil’s natural mycelium structure for optimal soil health and plant productivity.
We grow flowers during the months of March to October, varieties vary throughout the growing season.
What we grow
This year we have planted flower crops of: snapdragons, cosmos, scabiosa, calendula, rudbeckia, china aster, yarrow, dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, cornflower, roses, larkspur, alliums, daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, lillies, gladioli, anemones, sweet william, phlox, ammi, nigella, monarda, statice, strawflower, lupin and many perennials.
Our foliage crops this year are: bupleurum, cerinthe, queen annes lace, bells of ireland, poppy seed heads, dill, fountain grasses, scented geranium, purple basil, beech and honeysuckle.
We also love combining wild foliages and flowers into our arrangements. Bringing the Irish countryside - where our flowers grow- into every vase.
We support other local flower and foliage growers when we may not have enough to meet weekly demand.
Seasonal availability varies from April through October.
In the off season during special holidays we may pair Irish grown foliages with European grown flowers
